DSCSA

The Drug Quality and Security Act, was enacted by Congress on November 27, 2013. Title II of DQSA, the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, sets forth requirements for an interoperable network for the electronic tracing of products across industry trading partners at the package level to identify and trace certain prescription drugs as they are distributed in the United States. This interoperable trusted ecosystem will enhance the ability of the FDA and state regulator to help protect consumers from exposure to drugs that may be counterfeit, stolen, contaminated, or otherwise harmful. It will also improve detection and removal of potentially dangerous drugs from the drug supply chain to protect U.S. consumers.

The FDA has been actively engaged with stakeholders to collaboratively secure the U.S. drug supply chain. The Partnership for DSCSA Governance (PDG) is an independent, sector-neutral, non-profit organization working to support effective and efficient implementation of the DSCSA requirements for an interoperable, trusted ecosystem for tracing and verification of prescription drugs. PDG membership includes a range of supply chain stakeholders including trading partners, trade or professional associations, technical experts and other stakeholders, including InfoNetworks.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has been working closely with industry stakeholders to explore desired features and functionality for an interoperable network for product tracing and verification, and to support implementation of the enhanced drug distribution security requirements which will go into effect November 27, 2023. With our deep expertise in building solution for trusted ecosystems, InfoNetworks has partnered with NABP to leverage our platform and experience for developing their Pulse Network, NABP’s inclusive, accessible, and secure means of simplifying DSCSA compliance.
